Tending

It might be a thing, I licked infinity
but it got away from me, I got away
from thinking that mortar is material.
“Is that okay? You don’t have to answer.
There isn’t much between yes and no.”

The pavement tends to catch the light,
trying to be a firmament. The sky tends
to die out in the mercury vapor blush.
A star is a five-pointed shape you get
when you form the letters correctly.

I don’t think it’s done anymore.
The two blue lines, the dotted red line.
Snakes meaning things, their tales violating
their mouths, endlessly. I made sure nothing
could be erased, but it could all be burnt.
